I got my novice license (WN4NRN) in 1968 and my General (WB4NRN) in 1969. I remember getting my first 'phone' rig right before Apollo 11 landed on the moon (what a year!). I was inactive from 1972-1985, finding my career and wife in that period. I became an Advanced (AB4MJ) license in 1985 and Extra in 1986. We moved to Belgium in 1995 and I became ON9CNC. Returned to the US in 1999 and became K3NC.

I have operated a Packet Cluster node from 1988-1995 and 1999-2014 (when lightning took out my server).

I enjoy writing software for ham radio.

My primary operating interest is in digital modes and I especially love RTTY contesting.

I purchased my first Flex radio (SDR1000) in 2007 and have primarily used Flex radios as my rig of choice since then. I owned a company that built computers oprimized for SDRs from 2009-2018. I briefly worked for Flex Radio as a technical support person from April-July 2018. I quickly discovered that retirement was too enjoyable to have a 9-6 job so I 're-retired' (although I miss my colleagues at Flex all the time!)

Current station consists of a Flex-6600M, RF Kit B26-2K solid-state amp, 4 element Steppir yagi (with 30m-40m 'trombone') at 80', DX Engineering quarter-wave vertical on 80m and a busted 40m 4 square in the middle of a tick-infested forest. I use a tailtwister rotor controlled by a RT-21 Green Heron Engineering controller. I honestly could not be happier with my shack. If I could just avoid the periodic 'upgrades' forced by lightning/static field damage. Stepwise improvements will hopefully make them a thing of the past.
