Licensed origially as KC6GNE in 1988, I got into ham radio after a few years of shortwave radio listening. I came back to amateur radio and shortwave listening in 2022 after a very long hiatus.

My interest in radio goes as far back as elementary school when I listened to medium-wave DX at bedtime on a Mickey Mouse AM radio, and then with a CB radio that was in a model car from the Starsky & Hutch TV show.

I got hooked on SWL in high school when I borrowed an old Philips portable radio from a cousin in Spain during a summer-long trip there. I discovered it picked up stations from around the world on shortwave.

You can find me mostly at 7.181 MHz on 40m, operating on near vertical incidence skywave (NVIS) on 20W using a 65-foot-long end-fed half-wave antenna with a 49:1 UnUn. You can also find me on FT8, JS8Call or sometimes VarAC.
