I am a long time shortwave radio listener. I grew up with a Heath kit radio and wires strung all over the backyard trying to listen to SW stations from all over the world. I am also an Army veteran and pickup more radio skills during my time in service. I have had my Ham Radio Tech license since 2009, went through Storm Spotter training in the St.Louis area, but haven't been very active on the bands. I am looking to get more involved with the hobby and the community.
Currently, I only have a Yaesu FT5D HT, but am planning on getting a Yaesu FT891 outfitted in a backpack for hiking and field days. If you know of a good deal on an FT891, please share. I have been frequenting the Wires-X system in the America-KC Wide talk group via my local repeater, Echolink, and DroidStar.
