Greetings!

My name is John. I live in central North Carolina. I am retired from the US Army and currently work as a Infrastructure Engineer for a local government. Actually, I get paid for my hobby in IT (I am lucky)!

I have been interested in radio communication for a few years and got my Technician ticket in September of 2021 and my General in April 2023. I use a Yaesu 991A as my primary base station radio with an Anytone 578UVIII for DMR/2m/70cm and have the Yaesu 891 with a 10AH LifePO4 for portable OPs and as a backup. I have an OCF at 35 feet built for 6-80M at the top of my tower along with the 2m/70cm dipole, TV antenna and weather station. For QRP ops, I have the Xeigu G90 and several end-fed antennas along with a 6AH LifePO4 battery. I have an Anytone 778 in my truck for mobile use and usually take along a DMR HT along with a Pi-Star hotspot in the event I can't connect to a DMR repeater or am away from the truck. I also have several HT's (what ham doesn't) that are DMR and analog. 1 of the DMR radios is a GD77 running Open GD77 for analog on 2 m and 70 cm and for Satellite work and Digital/DMR. I enjoy talking with people around the world and DMR is fascinating and piqued my curiosity in HF. My other hobbies include NASCAR, Camping, reading, watching movies and spending time with my family. We love to go to Disney in Florida and go as often as we can. Being a big Star Wars fan, I can't get enough of it!
