DA6IT Amateur Radio Station

AMATEUR RADIO · IT · PROJECTS

Radio meets technology.

Hi, I'm Daniel – DA6IT from the Lower Rhine region of Germany.

Amateur radio is still a fairly new hobby for me, but it caught me immediately. I have held a German Class E amateur radio licence since May 1st, 2026 and my station is located in locator JO31EJ.

Professionally, I come from IT with a focus on networking and security. That is probably why my shack quickly became more than just a radio and an antenna: radios, computers, logging, CAT control, Linux, self-hosted services and my own software all belong together here.

The callsign fits that combination quite nicely: DA stands for Daniel and IT for the world I come from professionally.

ON THE AIR

My amateur radio life.

I especially enjoy FT8 and FT4, but SSB has definitely caught me as well. I also enjoy portable operation, POTA, contests and experimenting with different digital voice systems.

For me, one of the best parts of amateur radio is that there is always something new to try. One evening that might be chasing DX on HF, another evening it might be working on software, testing a new antenna, playing with CAT control or experimenting with another way of getting radios and computers to talk to each other.

SOFTWARE · TOOLS · SERVICES

Things I build.

My IT background inevitably found its way into amateur radio. On DA6IT.de I develop software and browser tools, document experiments and make some of my services available to other radio amateurs.

SOFTWARE

Wavelog Offline Logger

An offline-first amateur radio logger for Windows, macOS and Linux. QSOs are stored locally in ADIF and can be synchronized with Wavelog. The project also includes CAT/Hamlib support, WSJT-X UDP logging, DX Cluster integration, Fast Log and contest logging.

TRAINING

DA6IT QSO Trainer

A browser-based SSB training station for people who want to practise their first voice QSOs before going on the air. You talk to an AI-generated station named Susi using a virtual radio, PTT and speech recognition.

FREE SERVICE

Free Wavelog Hosting

I also operate a Wavelog service for radio amateurs who want to use a modern online logbook without having to install and maintain their own server.

ONLINE TOOL

ADIF Doctor

A small browser tool for checking, analysing and repairing ADIF log files when a logger, import or export has produced something unexpected.

DARC · OV GELDERN L17

Radio is better together.

I am a member of the DARC local chapter Geldern L17.

Our club gives us a great place for radio operation, training, technical experiments and simply spending time with other people who enjoy the same slightly crazy hobby.

QSL POLICY

QSL cards are welcome.

Paper QSL cards are very welcome for voice QSOs.

I normally do not send paper QSL cards for digital contacts such as FT4 or FT8. For digital QSOs, I prefer electronic confirmations.

I hope to meet you somewhere on the bands.

73 and good DX!
Daniel – DA6IT
