DW3VTL – My Journey in Ham Radio and Public Service Hi, I’m DW3VTL, an amateur radio operator and an active member of Society of Communicators And Networkers - International (SCAN-International), with the club callsign DX3EVM. I got introduced to radios early on, thanks to my father who was also a volunteer of a Civic Action/Radio Communication group. That gave me some basic knowledge, but my real interest started around 2019. My first handheld radio was a Motorola GP-68. From there, I slowly added more gear and began to explore the hobby more seriously. I started building my own antennas — my first one was a DIY split-dipole for 144 MHz. Since then, I’ve built and tested a few more. I even converted a handheld radio into a porta-base station by using a DC power supply from an old WiFi adapter and LM2596S Step-down Module — just to see if I could make it work. Sometimes, I go to high places or mountains to test signal propagation and try to reach farther contacts. In 2023, I got my Technician Class License, which opened up more opportunities on the air. I’m active not just on the 2-meter band and 70-cm band, but also on VoIP platforms like EchoLink and Zello. I also enjoy tracking amateur satellites and decoding SSTV images — like ARISS, SO-50, PO-101, IO-86, and a few others. Outside of radio, I’m also an Emergency First Responder. I’m part of the Disaster Assistance and Response Team in Tarlac Province, and currently serve as a Team Leader and Dispatcher with our local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) Rescue Team. If you’re curious about my setup, you can find my QTH on Google Maps — just search “DW3VTL Radio Station.” When all else fails, HAM radio works!. "Saving Lives is Our Priority" Thank you, and 73! de DW3VTL
