Just a short bio of myself and how I became a ham. In 1973 I was a community college student in the electronics field. One of my instructors, John Williams, W8IXT-SK, had a transceiver hooked up the the college's beam antenna on the roof. One day after class he asked if anyone wanted to try and make a contact with the radio. Myself and a few others said we would like to. While I was transmitting... CQ, CQ, W8IXT portable 8, I got a response for some fellow from California! I was blown away and hooked ever since.
Tempus fugit... I learned Morse code in Boy Scouts beaucoup years ago, but didn't pursue a license attempt until this past October. I know the FCC had dropped the code requirement years ago, but you know how it is. I studied for and passed my technician's test in a week. Bought a cheap Chinese radio (big mistake) and was on the air. I joined the local ham club, ARROW, and am now interested in re-learning my code, upgrading my license, purchasing the equipment and go CWing.
With a new DMR HT, and being the computer wizard that I am, setting up a hot-spot. I am very excited about this 'new' hobby and the friends I will be making both locally and from around the world. The only question I have is, "What took me so long!?!"
