Hello,
I'm a retired airline pilot since 2019 and I now devote myself to free flight. For this activity, I acquired a "Boofwang" radio so that I could communicate with my flying friends while in flight. I eventually discovered that the use of this particular radio wasn't, under certain conditions, "legal" without holding the appropriate licence.
So I set out to get official certification that goes beyond the Restricted Aviation Radio Operator Certificate. After reading books and documentation to acquire the missing knowledge in electronics and regulations along with the help of a mentor, in June 2023 I passed the exam and obtained the Canadian certificate. I then discovered a World of activities, such as: POTA, DX, Contest, etc.
My current rig is portable and consist of:
- Transceiver: Yaesu FT-891
- Antennas : Cha EMCOMM III Portable, Cha MPAS 2.0, Cha Mag F-Loop 3.0, 80M EFHW
- Tuners: MFJ-939Y, Comet C-300
In the future, I do not rule out the possibility of obtaining a CW certification for which I do have some knowledge (morse code) in order to further expand the possibilities of QSOs.
Looking forward for more contacts,
73
