I was born in Cologne, (Western-) Germany, in 1959 and was an SWL from the age of 15-22 (i.e. 1974-1981). The following years were difficult, both in terms of my studies and my financial situation. So I lost touch with the shortwave hobby.

After my studies, I worked briefly in the chemical industry and then taught chemistry and biology at public schools for 24 years. I then worked for seven years at the universities of Kiel and Flensburg and in my old age I wrote a doctoral thesis on lactose.

More than 40 years later, at the age of 64, I started studying for my radio licence and received the callsign DO5KMR. Now I'm studying for my A licence...

Я немного знаю русский язык, потому что около 50 лет назад (1975 год) мне довелось слушать РАДИО МОСКВА. Программа заканчивалась объявлением: "Werte Hörer, lernen Sie russisch im Funk!"- «Уважаемые слушатели, учите русский язык по радио!» Так я стал студентом радиоуниверситета. Позже (1994 год) у меня появилась девушка из Минска, но, к сожалению, она захотела вернуться домой. Сегодня русский язык - мое хобби, и я учу его понемногу каждый день с помощью программы Duolingo. Побывав на поезде в Москве, Санкт-Петербурге, Минске и Киеве, я мечтаю отправиться за Урал, на Байкал, и желаю всем счастья и мира на земле.

Depuis mes années d'école et depuis que j'ai fait une visite à Paris avec ma paroisse en 1972, j'aime le français. En conduisant, il m'arrive de penser à des phrases en français , "il faut faire attention au feu rouge", et je fais chaque jour une petite leçon sur duolingo.

English is a very important language, but it's a bit annoying that most Brits, Americans and Australians only know this one language, with limitations upwards and even downwards.

Como necesito un reto mental, ahora también estoy aprendiendo español con Duolingo. Me alegro mucho cuando los turistas hablan español a mi lado en el tren y puedo entender partes de la conversación. Algún día me uniré a la conversación y saludaré a nuestros huéspedes en español.
