Hello and welcome to the page of Tony G1HJW
I started as a Radio Ham in August 1984, after some time using CB Radio AM/SSB and then the UK FM system, and at the same time spending 5 years as a SWL using a Yaesu FRG7 and a long wire antenna, and a FM scanner on a small 2m antenna listening to Local Hams and local airport traffic.
After meeting via CB Net, the now silent Key G6WEM and being introduced to other hams and HF working, I remember one man, whose call sign I don't remember, but he had a full HF station in his car, working the world there in his car.
I went for the course and Exam and passing that I got what was then a class B now A Full licence I spent most of my time on 2m/70cm progressing up to a multi beam array on both 2m and 70cm, progressed into working Satellites 70cm up 2m down or 2m up 10m down and had some nice contacts Via OSCAR 10 & 13 & the RS Satellites, also worked the Space Shuttle and have the QSL card >>
STS-64 Space Shuttle Discovery mission, which was set to perform multiple experiment packages. It was Discovery's 19th flight. STS-64 was launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on 9 September 1994, and landed back on 20 September 1994 at Edwards Air Force Base. Really great contact late at night as one of their non-scheduled Ham contacts.
When 6m became available in the UK, I put up a single 6ELE Beam on 6m, which allowed me to work well over into Europe, and on 6m, the USA, I got to work many nice contacts on 2m and 70cm, and 6M, gaining some mention in the RSGB Radcom magazine.
Having taken a break from the Hobby, returning & going on to the newly allowed HF bands when the CW was removed as a requirement to use HF, I then gained the DXCC Award, WAC, and awards to add to those from my awards for VHF/UHF contacts.
I went QRT for a while when I moved to the FarEast after few years I returned but my Health took a serious hit when I had a stroke which took away my ability to both walk and talk and do hand writing I was again QRT due to health reasons, I am back now with my health slowly returning and regained my ability to talk and 90% of my walking ability, But still my handwriting is a mess, you really miss it when you loose these abilitys.
Thank god I am able to use my computer & printer for day-to-day letters, and I am able to use software like Log4OM & WSJT-X for computer logging and data modes, as going out is still restricted, so I'm looking to get back into the hobby rather than go mad with boredom :)
Below is the station I am working on, much smaller than I once had. I am limited by a small garden and a smaller shack room, but it will get me back on the Air: it's not fully set up as yet, as I have friends using their free time to help me sort it out. But slowly getting there.
The Transmitting Radio Equipment Antenna & Miscellaneous are:
ICOM IC 7300 HF/6m ICOM with a Hustler 6BTV & ICOM IC 7100 HF VHF UHF with LDG-ATU on a 40m to 6m longwire for HF-6M also working 6m on Comet 6M/2M/70CM Vertical swaping between either of the IC Radio's when wanting to use them on Vertical 6M, But mostly the comet will be on my FTM-6000 Duel-Band Mobile for 2m/70cm giving me the option to be on HF-6m and still listening out for friends and more local contacts on the YAESU FTM-6000 2m & 70cm duel band radio.
That completes the station for now..
