The Easiest Way to Track Your Flight Is From Your Text Messages on iOS

Bad weather combined with a labor shortage has caused thousands of flights to be delayed or canceled this holiday season. There are some things you can do to avoid flight delays or cancellations, but sometimes it's unavoidable, so it's good to be prepared. 

Whether you're on a plane or waiting for family or friends to arrive from out of town, it's a good idea to keep track of flight information such as delays and gate changes. This useful feature help to be productive like using https://apps.apple.com/us/app/call-recorder-for-iphone/id1503665233. 

Of course, you can get this information from the airline app on your phone or the airport's flight information display system, but there is an easier way that requires no download or activation. 

All the flight information you need is displayed as a text message on your iPhone. 

Flight tracking via text message on iPhone 

Before starting, there are some conditions that must be met: 

Make sure iMessage is enabled (doesn't work with SMS/MMS messages). 

Regardless of whether you sent the information to someone (including yourself) or to yourself, you must include the flight number somewhere in your SMS. 

Flight numbers must be sent in the format [airline] [flight number]. For example, American Airlines 9707. 

Launch the original Text Message app on your iPhone and open a text message containing flight information. You know Flight Tracker is working when the flight information text is underlined. That means it works and clicks. 

However, if your flight is months away or has already departed, you may receive a "Flight Details Not Available" message. Airlines reuse flight numbers, so you might see another flight that isn't yours. The use covert flight tracking in a number of ways. 

Although the airline name/flight number format above is the best way to go, there are other text message options that produce the same result. Let's say you're stuck with  American Airlines Flight 9707, which has other options for viewing flight tracking. 

We recommend writing the full name of the airline and adding a space between the two pieces of information (as in the previous section). These alternative options may not work for all airlines. 

Track your flights in real-time:  check flight status, delays, baggage, etc. 

Once all the settings are done, click the Flight Details button in the text message. If this feature is working correctly, you will see two options in the context menu: 

Flight Preview: Show flight details. Tap here to view flight information. 

Copy flight code: Copy the flight code to your clipboard (if you want to send flight information via SMS or email). By selecting Flight Preview at the top of the window, you can see the best part of this feature: a real-time flight path map. A line connects two objects and a small plane moves between them, showing their position during the flight.
