YO3BMI – Mihai Burlacu, Bucharest, Romania

Hello and thank you for visiting my page. My name is Mihai, and I operate as YO3BMI from Bucharest, Romania, right in the heart of KN34bk. I’m active on the HF bands and enjoy exploring the many facets of amateur radio, especially digital modes like FT8, where I spend most of my operating time.

My Radio Journey

I’ve always been drawn to the blend of technology, communication, and problem‑solving that defines amateur radio. What started as curiosity quickly became a passion — from understanding propagation and antennas to fine‑tuning digital workflows and logging systems. I enjoy the challenge of making every part of the station work smoothly together, and I’m always learning something new.

I’m also currently developing my skills in CW (Morse code). It’s a rewarding challenge and a beautiful part of our hobby’s heritage. My goal is to become a confident CW operator and broaden my abilities as a well‑rounded ham enthusiast.

Station Setup

My station is built around reliable, well‑integrated tools:

  • Transceiver: Icom IC‑7300 MkII
  • Modes: Primarily FT8, with occasional SSB and other digital modes
  • CW: Actively learning and practicing
  • Logging: Log4OM 2 with full LoTW, ClubLog, QRZ and eQSL integration
  • Digital: WSJT‑X connected through CAT and audio interfaces
  • QSLing: LoTW preferred, with eQSL and paper cards available on request

I enjoy optimizing the station — from CAT control to TQSL automation — and keeping everything synchronized for accurate, clean logging.

Operating Interests

I’m active mostly on HF, chasing DX, experimenting with propagation, and improving my station’s performance. I appreciate the technical side of the hobby: troubleshooting, system integration, and making sure every QSO is logged and confirmed properly. I also enjoy following developments in defense innovation, cybersecurity, and energy systems, which often overlap with the technical mindset of amateur radio.

QSL Information

  • LoTW: Preferred and uploaded regularly
  • eQSL: Accepted
  • Paper QSL: Bureau or direct, available on request
  • I keep my log synchronized and updated, so confirmations are usually quick and accurate

A Few Words About Me

Outside of radio, I’m a systems‑oriented thinker who enjoys solving complex problems, learning continuously, and connecting with people who share a passion for technology. Amateur radio gives me a perfect mix of technical challenge and global friendship — and I’m grateful for every contact.

Thank you for stopping by, and I hope to meet you on the air soon. 73 de YO3BMI – Mihai, Bucharest
